Bees
There are about 20,000 types of bees all over the world. Bees are classified as arthropods.Bees live at colonies were each bee has a special job. Since they live in colonies they are called social insects.Bees are mostly found throughout the Tropical Rainforest, around Mexico and Central America. The queen bee is the largest bee of the colony and its job is to lay eggs. The drones are the male bees, they do not work or sting their job is to mate with the queeen bee. There are also worker bees who are female and do all the work of the colony. One of the most important jobs of the worker bees is having to get nectar. Nectar is a sweet liquid found in the middle of the flower. To get it bees need to brush their hairy legs close to the pollen. It sticks to their legs and as they land in every flower the pollen mixes and lands on other flowers. That is why the bees are considered pollinators, but the bees also keep a lot of nectar and that is where honey comes from.
Queen Bees
Queen bees are a huge part of the reproduction of the bees. Out of the egg comes a larva which is a small grub. The workers start feeding the larva 2 days after it hatched with something they call royal jelly. By eating the royal jelly they become Queen Bees. After 11 days the Queen Bee is fully developed and leaves her cell. The Queen Bee flies out of the hive followed by some drones. She mates with about 18 to 20 drones during her lifetime(which is about 2 years). A queen starts laying eggs about 10 days after mating and lays about 3,000 eggs a day.
Stingers
Only female bees can sting, males cannot sting their only job is mating. A bee can only sting once and then dies. Although it leaves the stinger behind. The stinger has hooks and a poison sac, that keeps pumping poison until it is removed from the bee.
